Have Beach Fun and Prevent Beach Damage with Hair Sun Protection
By Acne Guru | August 19, 2009
Hair sun protection is vitally important and nearly always overlooked. If you are like most, you look forward to summer all year. However, your hair is probably not so excited. You probably love the warm glow that your hair gets from the sun each summer, but beach bunny blonde is hard on the hair. Hair that starts out summer with natural, sunny highlights can easily end in stiff, straw-like, dried out disaster if you do not take proper steps to protect your hair while you are enjoying yourself at the pool or the beach.
Here are several tips for effective hair sun protection:
* Moisturize - Pool chemicals and salt from the ocean are incredibly destructive when it comes to your hair. The most effective way to get good hair sun protection is to constantly moisturize. Like skin, hair needs a lot of moisture to resist damage. Smooth in a leave-in conditioner or spray on a mixture of conditioner and water each time you leave the water.
* Look out for Octyl Methyoxycinnamate - Generally long chemical names are not what you want for your hair. However, octyl methyoxycinnamate indicates that you are dealing with some serious SPF. Vitamins A, E and C are also a good defense against free radicals. Free radicals are what highly charged molecules that can harm the cells in your hair and skin are called.
* Always Cover Up - Placing physical protection between the sun and your hair is probably the most fool-proof method of hair sun protection. Fix a scarf over your head for a classically glamorous and fully protected look. This is vital when the sun is strongest, between 10 AM and 3PM.
* Do the Right “Do” - A bun or a pony tail actually can be a great way to protect your hair if you are unexpectedly exposed to the sun. Pulling your hair back and working a dollop of regular sunscreen through it will protect it and give you a convenient, “beachy” look.
Keep your hair healthy and intact by protecting it from the sun. Hair sun protection keeps your hair healthy and vibrant for fall.
