How to Build an Acne Diet
By Acne Guru | October 28, 2009
An acne diet is a very interesting idea. We’ve all heard that chocolate gives you pimples. Almost all of us have. As a result, it does not seem so far-fetched that what you eat could prevent acne instead of cause it.
However, an acne diet can be a hard thing to develop. It is highly personal and based on your body’s unique responses to food. Your advancement will mostly be by trial and error and not all by guidelines. Watch your skin carefully. Make note of any changes. Taking pictures with your digital camera is a good way to keep a journal. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.
The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:
* Up your intake of protein - Some dermatologists even believe that protein intake is connected to having clear skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.
* Don’t eat carbs - Do not take all carbs out of your diet. However, you do need to limit them to about 40 percent of your diet. Carbohydrates contain compounds that stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. Actually it is just that junk food is high in carbs.
* Consume green tea - Drinking the real stuff is the best. The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.
* Limit your total intake of salt - Iodine is almost always located within salt. This being the reason table salt can be called “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.
You must always be careful of what you eat and put on your face. If you currently have acne, you are more aware than most of what is contained in your beauty products. Natural and organic skin care lines are the best acne prone skin. These are least likely to cause a breakout. If you wear makeup, then consider investing in mineral makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
