Acne Scar Removal

Acne Scars develop if an infection develops in acne and the skin heals itself so that it remains healthy however leaves pigmented and / or pitted marks on the affected area, they can be very difficult and dear to remove.

Many treatments for acne scars can be bought over the counter ranging from creams to micro needling. The most regularly used treatments for acne scars are the creams or skin masks which can (but not always) be affective but take a while for the results to start to show as a big percentage of these creams are not absorbed by the skin. Therefore creams are often wasted and so are not economical.

An alternative tool that can be bought to treat acne scars is the dermaroller. This is a tool for skin needling; you carefully roll the dermaroller over the scarred area of skin which opens the pores of your top layer of skin making it believe that it is damaged activating the production of collagen and elastin which eventually heals the damaged skin.

Once the derma roller has been used the pores on the epidermis (top layer of skin) are open for up to an hour making this the best time to use creams as they are a lot better absorbed when the pores are open as opposed to when the pores are closed. This reduces the waste in creams and increases the effectiveness of the derma roller.

There are more extreme methods to reduce acne scars however these are all expensive and have to be carried out by professionals and then they’re not even guaranteed to work! These include; Micro dermabrasion, laser treatments, chemical peals and also skin needling can be done by a professional more vigorously using a longer needle size and numbing cream.

In my experience in treating acne scars I have found that the most result effective and cost effective treatment is derma rolling at home as it is relatively cheap and as it works by inducing the healing process is the most natural way to heal acne scars.
