Treating Your Acne Scars With Augmentation Surgeries

By Acne Guru | September 6, 2010

The question is how to remove acne scars. One of several answers is augmentation surgeries.

Augmentation is simply a fancy means of saying filling them in. In the depression caused by an acne scar, a material is injected underneath to help level out the depression.

These injectable materials cover a wide range, from hyaluronic acid based products to more straightforward fat injections.

Widely used and very popular is the old standby: collagen injections.
Collagen injections work very well on less severe acne scars. They may very well provide just the results you’re looking for. They can treat smaller acne scars by filling in areas that need it, and collagen is a naturally ocurring substance that will not give you any nasty side effects.

Also showing great results and gaining in popularity is a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based injectable. Also a naturally occurring substance, side effects are low. It’s present in all manner of body parts already; what makes it particularly suitable as an injectable material is it’s water retention capabilities.
It acts like a moisturizer from under your skin! It both raises depressed areas and delivers a steady flow of healthy moisturization!

That sounds absolutely incredible, huh?

Not to rain on the parade, but EVERY augmentation treatment for acne scarring has a downside – they are not permanent.
Expect to need to repeat the process a couple (or maybe even three or four) times every year. Your skin and it’s nature are going to decide how often you need to do this.

Costs will depend on a lot of things – where it’s done, the physician doing it, how often you require it, the sort of injectable, the quantity of injectable…you have the picture. It’s a long list.

For less severe acne scarring – if a low/no downtime procedure, that provides results very fast appeals to you, augmentation ought to be something you consider. Like with all surgical acne scar treatments, consultation with a physician is really a must.

So, now you know a bit more about augmentation surgeries, and – “Knowing is half the battle!”
